Playing an instrument is one of the most rewarding activities one can do, rewarding both the player and those lucky enough to listen. Though these rewards can be reaped through learning any instrument, learning the piano is an especially beneficial experience.

Not only does piano engage the feet, fingers, arms, eyes, ears, brain, and more - providing a "full-body workout" for your brain - but learning to play allows you to perform nearly any piece of music, from rap, country, and pop, to classical piano solos and symphonies, because of the pianist's ability to play over 20 notes at a time within an 88-note range. This is more than enough to play any melody with any harmony.

But taking on the task of learning an instrument, and especially the piano, can be daunting. Where can you begin?

Well, we always suggest taking private, personalized lessons so that your teacher can tailor the lessons to fit your exact needs. But we understand that some budding musicians want to start NOW, and as with any skill may prefer to dip their toes in, instead of diving headfirst into intensive weekly lessons and practice.

Learn at your own pace.

We love providing private lessons and always have time for our students. However, we know that not everyone is ready or able to start taking private piano lessons.

Because of this, we have worked over the past few months to outline a piano curriculum - from free tips on practice, music theory, and sight-reading - to more intensive, paid tutorials on playing specific pieces delivered by our long-time professional pianist and teacher, Niko.

Below you will find the complimentary videos, where you'll learn all you need to know about the fundamentals of music theory, practice, and performance, as well as the information you'll need to build your technical foundation before you start tackling those complicated pieces and impress your friends!

Where To Begin - Theory and Warmups!

Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, Timbre: The Building Blocks of Music

$0.00

Whether it's the plinking done by a child when they come across a piano, Beethoven's fifth symphony, or Michael Jackson's thriller, if you pick any number of pieces of music from a hat, chances are they all have one thing in common:

Melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.

The quintessential building blocks of music; while alone, these don't do much, but when put together, the result is infinitely greater than the sum of its parts.

In this video, Niko outlines the purpose of each "building block," while providing examples and context for budding musicians to start building their understanding of this foundational component of music theory!
