PictureMr. Malek
With over eight years of experience, Mr. Malek has taught piano to all ages and levels of experience.  His favorite thing about teaching is seeing how lessons help students become more disciplined and confident, no matter what age. Several of his students have gone on to earn accreditation from international schools such as Royal College of Music and ABRSM.  Though he specializes in classical music, Mr. Malek also teaches jazz, blues, and pop style piano as well.

Mr. Malek comes from a musical family, so you could say music is in his blood.

As a pianist, Mr. Malek has had the pleasure of performing with award-winning groups such as the Flutesonic Chamber Orchestra, the LA Metropolitan Opera, and has also performed on live TV.

Igor teaching piano in San Jose, CAJohn
Jonathan Bailey facetiously points out that he began piano at the age of one and a half (he does have a picture of himself at the piano at that age).  His mother was an excellent pianist and his father was a semi-professional pianist who began teaching John when he was still quite young, which greatly developed his ear.  He then began more formal lessons around 9 or 10.

Later, in adulthood he landed at the Hunter School of Music.  His teacher there was a new arrival from Pennsylvania, Dr. Brian Ciach, who taught there before obtaining a professorship in music at San Jose State University. Along the way, John also received Level 8 certification in theory under Dr. Ciach, and is thus qualified to also teach music theory.

John looks forward to helping develop the talent that comes his way at San Jose Piano Lessons.

Derek Hammer teaching piano in San JoseMr. Harris
Hello and nice to meet you! I'm Chase, from Arizona. I started piano lessons when I was 11 years old, and I took lessons for 4 years. I then continued my self-study for 15 years, learning composition for cinema. I've won "best composition" for some of my cinema compositions in competitions.

I was also a keyboardist in a
jazz/funk band for 1 year. I lived in Asia for 10 years (China, Japan, Thailand), and was a teacher for English and also for piano. Now, I mainly practice improvisation and composition for the piano. I'm looking forward to teaching you piano!

Claire giving a piano lesson in san jose, caClaire
Claire has been playing jazz piano for her entire life, and, like Mr. Malek, comes from an extremely musical family, but Claire's was made up of jazz musicians.

In the last decade or so, Claire has picked up classical and contemporary styling from our other teachers here at San Jose Piano Lessons, but then realized she wanted to do nothing else but to join our team and teach here with us! Claire has a background in elementary school teaching, but is just as skilled in tutoring piano students that are college-aged and up.

But even given that fact - if your young child wants to learn how to play jazz, who better than Claire to be his or her teacher.
