San Jose Piano Lessons offers all styles, the most popular style being classical.

Classical music is seen as a special, extremely unique type of music because of its unmatched ability to produce emotion both in those who play it and those who listen to it.

Classical music has so much potential to inspire emotionality in players that people often believe that performances involve exaggerated expressions on the part of the performer - but this is rarely the case!

Classical music has that quality of sparking serious emotion, be it anger, sorrow, excitement, or anything else, in those who play it more than anything.

As a musician I tell you that if you were to suppress adultery, fanaticism, crime, evil, the supernatural, there would no longer be the means for writing one note.
-George Bizet

Classical Piano Lessons: benefits

All of our piano instructors, regardless of their specialty, have a deep appreciation for classical music. Nearly all musicians have a lot of respect for classical music, and even mathematicians have something to talk about when it comes to this style in particular. Classical music has helped inform all the types of music that have followed up to the present day.

Our instructors understand the value of classical music, and how its benefits transcend across all styles of music, and suggest exercises in classical music accordingly. In fact, modern day musicians benefit from an understanding of classical music.

Why Learn Classical Piano?

Being able to play the notes of a classical piece in order is one thing. Being able to feel the music and translate your feelings into an emotional sound is another. That is arguably just as important as actually being able to hit the notes, as classical music relies on feel and feel alone to convey the messages it was made to convey.

While not all classical music recreates emotional experiences, all classical music was made to be played with varying emotions. It helps you express how you feel about something through sound, even if it's not your own piece of music that you're playing. It helps others connect to you emotionally on a unique level by hearing you play. It helps you spark emotions in other people, and it helps you process experiences in life, even those unrelated to music.

If there's music that can make you remember someone you loved who is gone now, or allow you to really feel excited about what's new in your life, it's classical. If you have an audience of a couple friends and you want to relax and hear something nice, you're going to be playing classical. Classical music is essentially the most well-structured, expressive music that humans have created so far, capable of drawing out emotion even in those who have difficulty feeling and expressing it themselves.

The History of Classical Piano

The history of classical music extends back all the way from the year 500 to today. Classical music is performed by orchestras, symphonies, string quartets, solo pianists, and many more types of ensembles.

Arguably the most influential musician of all time, and almost inarguably the most influential for classical, was Johann Sebastian Bach, or "The Father of Harmony," as Beethoven called him. Bach established dozens of practices that are now hallmark features of classical music, like counterpoint melodies and various ways of laying out harmonies and rhythms.

As time went on, music became more expressive and dynamic. Composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven expanded the range of expression in classical piano. Classical music continued developing in the level of expression played for pieces and in building better harmonies. What we're left with today is a wide canon of music that expresses emotion in all its complexities.
